Display Name: Sighting and Sign - Most Recent Documented Occurrence
Description: The Woodland Caribou Documented Occurrence public data product is composed of three shapefiles/feature classes:1. Woodland Caribou Occurrence - Sightings and Sign2. Woodland Caribou Occurrence - Telemetry3. Woodland Caribou Survey BoundariesThis dataset (Woodland Caribou Occurrence - Sightings and Sign) contains a grid of 18 sq km hexagons (tessellation). The inclusion of a hexagon in the dataset indicates that one or more animal sightings or sign have been documented in that area. Importantly, lack of caribou occurrence (e.g. no hexagon) should not be interpreted as absence of woodland caribou. Rather, data may not have been collected in these areas or incidental or other observations have not been received. The data represent sightings or caribou sign (e.g. tracks, fecal pellets, cratering) from surveys or incidental observations submitted to the ministry. Data from surveys represent caribou sightings or sign recorded by trained personnel following standardized protocols for a set area. Incidental observations are sightings and sign submitted voluntarily by land users, field personnel or the public.
