This dataset contains the boundaries of the four field office regions: Lloydminster (Area 1), Kindersley (Area 2), Swift Current (Area 3), and Estevan (Area 4), that deliver programs to support and regulate Saskatchewan's upstream oil and gas activities. The boundaries follow the Cadastre township grid for all field office areas except between the north portion of the Kindersley- Swift Current field office boundary where the South Saskatchewan River delineates the two areas. Field office programs uphold and enforce requirements specified under The Oil and Gas Conservation Regulations at the field level. Boundaries were chosen to manage field activities via the shortest travel distance to each field office. Activities include, a) enforcement of environmental and safety requirements, b) administration of spill, waste, and products storage management requirements, and c) inspection and enforcement of upstream oil and gas wells, facilities, and drilling rigs. The dataset was created as a file geodatabase feature class and output for public distribution.

This dataset contains the elevation data (metres above sea level), on a 1km spaced grid for southeast Saskatchewan, that delineates the structure surface separating saline groundwater from groundwater that is considered to be fresh as defined by the OGCR. Currently, the structure surface extends from the southeast corner of the province from the Manitoba border to range 15 West of the 2nd meridian, and from the international border with the U.S.A. to township 11. This surface has been mapped using stratigraphic data from existing Saskatchewan Water Security Agency (WSA) water well datasets and PNG licensed well data that were interpolated with a Kriging algorithm. The structure surface for the Base of Groundwater Protection represents the subsurface elevation that is 15m below the top of the Pierre Shale Formation (Bearpaw equivalent). The Base of Groundwater Protection was mapped 15m below the top of the Pierre Shale Formation (Bearpaw equivalent) in order to account for any misinterpolation from the Kriging algorithm. The surface was created as a file geodatabase feature class and output for public distribution.

The surface objects, ‘Top of Quaternary’ and ‘Base of Quaternary’, used to calculate the isopach thickness of the Quaternary, were modelled using the following data.

The series of stratigraphic framework maps for the Saskatchewan Phanerozoic Fluids and Petroleum Systems (SPFPS) project have been produced using 2 km equi-spaced modified grids generated from Golden Software’s Surfer 9 kriging algorithm. The dataset used to produce each of the maps in this series was created using data from several projects completed by the Ministry (Christopher, 2003; Saskatchewan Industry and Resources et al., 2004; Kreis et al., 2004; Marsh and Heinemann, 2006; Saskatchewan Ministry of Energy and Resources et al., 2007; Heinemann and Marsh, 2009); these data were validated and edited as required to facilitate correlations between the various regional projects. In addition, to minimize edge effects during contouring, the senior author also generated stratigraphic data from wells in adjacent jurisdictions.
Outcrop exposures were digitized from many sources. These sources include historic maps and modern ortho-imagery and therefore is a compilation of data from different scales and variable location accuracy. In some cases, the polygons overlap due to multiple authors mapping in the same region. Some examples of the included work are as follows:
Fahrig’s (1961) data was published at approximately 1:1M scale with outcrop coordinate locations presumably through pace and compass techniques as well as air photographs.
Ramaekers’ unpublished 50K scale maps were created during the mid-70’s to early 80’s, presumably though pace and compass. Coordinate error is noted to be plus/minus 100 m in both directions. Although the outcrop polygon work was never published, the work led to many reports and publications including his Final Report 195 (1990) on the Athabasca Basin.
Harper’s 1982 ‘Geology of the Carswell Structure’ publication is produced at 50K scale.
Sibbald (XXXX) data was published at approximately 1 inch – 1 Mile.
Data from Bosman is more modern and collected through direct, onsite digitization with GPS capable instruments or though digitization of high-resolution air photographs and therefore accuracy is under 10 m.
This dataset will be improved upon as new information becomes available.
This dataset contains a buffered polygon area digitized from the 1:1 000 000 scale Surficial Geology Map of Saskatchewan (1997) that references glaciofluvial material known to be vulnerable to surface and ground water contaminants. The sensitive nature of the area is known by Ministry staff and Government agencies due to concerns brought forward by local residents. Currently, the polygon spans from ranges 34 West of the 1st Meridian – 20 West of the 2nd Meridian, and from the international border with the U.S.A to township 11 in southeast Saskatchewan which contains identified areas with additional obligations cited in Directive PNG005: Casing and Cementing Requirements, Appendix 1. The polygon was created to be used in preliminary screening tools when licensing new Ministry infrastructure and for land analysis purposes. End-users should review the Use Limitation outlined below and understand that the buffered polygon is an interpretive boundary and does not guarantee to fully contain or exclude any specific surface material or groundwater resources. The extent was created as a file geodatabase polygon feature class and output for public distribution.

The Precambrian Shield of Northern Saskatchewan has a complex metamorphic history with as many as six distinct thermotectonic events affecting various regions. Several of these result from major periods of crustal thickening attributed to orgenies, whereas others represent seperate pulses of unknown origin. As might be expected, it is the most recent of these that are the most extensively preserves and that can be documented most reliably.

This dataset represents survey coverage index for digitally acquired Aeromagnetic Data for the Province of Saskatchewan, Canada, available through the Geoscience Data Repository, Natural Resources Canada (NRCAN). It was compiled as a file geodatase feature class and made available for public distribution.
This dataset represents the gravity data represent Bouguer gravity anomalies. All measurements used in the compilation of this map were reduced to the International Gravity Standardization Net 1971 (IGSN71) datum. Theoretical gravity values were calculated from the Geodetic Reference System 1967 (GRS67) gravity formula. Bouguer anomalies were calculated using a vertical gravity gradient of 0.3086 mGal/m and a crustal density of 2670 kg/m3. The data spacing for the given area ranges from 3 km to 12 km. The data were gridded to a 2 km interval for this presentation and shown at 1:1 000 000 scale.
