These monitors are part of various partnership programs including the National Air Pollution Surveillance (NAPS) network, the Southeast Saskatchewan Airshed Association (SESAA), the Western Yellowhead Air Management Zone (WYAMZ), and the Great Plains Air Zone (GPAZ). Continuous ambient air monitors measure the concentration of air pollutants across Saskatchewan. The data from these air monitoring locations is used to track and report on progress for achieving air quality objectives; to measure representative pollutant concentrations and determine long-term trends and; to provide air quality information to the public. Air pollutants typically come from various industrial activity and natural sources, such as: mining, oil and gas, agriculture, forest fires, electrical generation, and the transportation sector. Air Quality standards are outlined in Table 20 of the province’s Environmental Code, June 1, 2015 under The Environmental Management and Protection Act, 2010.
